On September 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Plastics Association (VSPA) and the Standard Metrology Quality Technology Center 3 (Ministry of Science and Technology) held a summary meeting for the first 8 months and held a seminar on "Bio-Packaging Quality and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions".

At the event, Mr. Zhong Jinqiang, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Plastics Association (VSPA), said that the plastics industry in Ho Chi Minh City has grown by about 10-12% per year. However, the industry still faces many challenges, especially in the competition in the low-end market. Technical barriers are still the biggest obstacle. Enterprises are limited in production capacity, equipment and technology, resulting in low product quality and weak competitiveness. Many enterprises have not dared to invest heavily in technological transformation.

Representatives from the Standard Metrology Quality Technology Center 3 also warned of new challenges facing exporters. Europe has begun to implement the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Although many of Vietnam's export goods have not been affected yet, the coverage of the mechanism may be expanded in the future to cover more products. Therefore, it is very urgent for enterprises to take the initiative to transform green production as soon as possible. Companies should first establish emission reports and control emissions throughout the entire production chain to reduce emissions at each production link.

In recent years, the Ho Chi Minh City Plastics Association (VSPA) has been working side by side with local companies and providing support. VSPA connects companies with various programs of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, focusing on promoting digital transformation and green transformation programs to promote exports. In addition, the association also actively promotes source waste sorting, aiming to completely recycle plastic waste, help protect the environment, and move towards the goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart and sustainable city.
